Disclosure first: we build done-for-you websites for pressure washing contractors, so we are not neutral. Squarespace is a good product and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Here is the honest comparison, including the cases where Squarespace is the right answer and we are not.
We deliberately do not quote Squarespace's prices here, because their plans change and a stale price would be worse than none. Everything we say about how Squarespace works was checked against Squarespace's own documentation in August 2026. For the current cost, check Squarespace's pricing page directly.
The short answer
THE REAL TRADE-OFF
Looks vs leads
Squarespace is the best looking option on this page with the least design skill required. It is also a forever subscription, and good looking is not the same thing as good at turning a visitor into a phone call.
Side by side
| Squarespace | WasherAuthority | |
|---|---|---|
| Who builds it | You | We do |
| Time from start to live | Your available evenings | 48 hours, 24 on Authority |
| Cost structure | Subscription, continues for the life of the site | One time build fee, then $29/mo Site Care Plan |
| Try before paying | 14 day free trial, no card required | Free mockup, no card required |
| Custom domain | Free for year one on annual plans | Included, registered in your name |
| Written for pressure washing | No, design led templates | Yes, that is all we build |
| Service area pages | You build each one | Included on Authority |
| Move the site to another host | Content exports, design does not | Yours to take |
| Site if you stop paying | Unpublished, and it was never yours | Unpublished, but you keep the domain, the content and the site code and can host it elsewhere |
Squarespace behaviour above confirmed from Squarespace's own documentation in August 2026, including the 14 day trial, the free first year domain on annual plans, and that its export produces a WordPress compatible file in which style settings and custom CSS do not transfer.
What Squarespace genuinely does well
- It is hard to make it ugly. The templates carry real design discipline. Someone with no eye for layout still ends up with something clean.
- Mobile handling is strong. Layouts hold together on a phone without you fighting them, which matters because most of your visitors are on one.
- Everything is in one place. Domain, hosting, SSL, and the editor are one bill and one login. There is real value in that simplicity.
- Support is decent. Real documentation and responsive help, which is more than you can say for a lot of cheap hosting.
Where it gets hard for a pressure washing business
- It is built for brands, not for local service. The templates are aimed at photographers, restaurants, and boutiques. The things a contractor site needs, like a tap-to-call header, a quote form that asks the right questions, and a page for each town you serve, you assemble yourself.
- The subscription never ends, and nothing is ever yours. Same structural issue as any builder. You are renting, and if you stop paying the site is gone with nothing to take with you.
- Service area pages are still on you. Squarespace will not tell you that ranking in four nearby towns takes four real pages with genuinely different content.
- Leaving means rebuilding. Content export is partial and design does not come with you.
The 3-year math
| Option | Year 1 | 3-year total |
|---|---|---|
| Builder subscription at $25/mo (example) | $300 | $900 |
| Builder subscription at $40/mo (example) | $480 | $1,440 |
| WasherAuthority Pro, build fee plus Site Care | $847 | $1,543 |
| WasherAuthority Authority, build fee plus Site Care | $1,347 | $2,043 |
The subscription rows are example price points to show the shape of the model, not quotes from Squarespace. Substitute the price you are actually quoted.
As with any builder, add your own hours on top of the subscription rows. The subscription is the visible cost. Your weekends are the invisible one.
Pretty is not the same as booked
This is the part worth sitting with. A homeowner deciding who to call is not judging your typography. They are looking for three things in about eight seconds: do you work in my area, have you done this exact job before, and how do I reach you right now.
A plain site that answers those three things immediately will out-book a beautiful site that makes people hunt. Most Squarespace contractor sites we see lose on the second one. The template wanted a hero image and a mission statement, so that is what went in, and the proof that actually closes the job is three scrolls down or missing entirely.
None of that is Squarespace's fault. It is what happens when a design-led tool meets a sales-led problem.
Who should pick what
Pick Squarespace if appearance matters a lot to your market, you are comfortable doing the work, and you want one simple bill. If you are doing high-end residential work in an affluent area and you want to look premium, Squarespace gets you there without hiring a designer.
Pick a done-for-you build if you would rather the layout be decided by what books jobs than by what looks good in a template, and you would rather own the site than rent it.
When you should not buy from us
If you already have a Squarespace site that is working, meaning the phone rings and you can point to jobs that came from it, do not replace it because someone told you to. Put the money into reviews and Google Ads instead. A working site you already own beats a slightly better one you have to buy.
Common questions
Is Squarespace good for a pressure washing business?
It can work. Squarespace produces genuinely attractive sites and handles mobile layout well. The catch for a contractor is that it is built around design first, and a pressure washing site wins on proof, service area coverage, and an obvious way to request a quote, not on looking like a design portfolio.
Squarespace or Wix for a contractor website?
Squarespace tends to look better with less effort. Wix gives you more freedom to move things around and a larger app ecosystem. For a small local service business the difference between them matters far less than whether you finish the site and get reviews.
Does Squarespace charge a monthly fee forever?
Yes. Squarespace is a subscription. The site is published for as long as you keep paying, and the fee continues for the life of the site. If you stop paying, the site is gone and there was never anything that was yours to take with you.
Can I move a Squarespace site to another host?
Only partially. Squarespace lets you export some content in a WordPress compatible format, but the design and layout do not transfer. In practice, moving off Squarespace means rebuilding the site.
